Thank you to everyone in the community for making my first week a great one! My family and I truly appreciate the warm welcome. It’s been wonderful meeting folks and talking about all the great things happening in our school district.

Go Angels!
At the end of the school year, there were some complaints about our school meal program. I submitted a report for the June school board meeting, and they felt it was good information for others to be aware of, so here it is.
The reason we can provide free breakfast and lunch to all students is because we are part of the National School Lunch Program and receive reimbursement from the State of Alaska for our qualified meals. The document attached shows not only the minimum weekly meal requirements but also the daily minimum and maximum nutrition standards we must follow in order for a meal to qualify.
While we would love to serve our students enough food to fill their stomachs, we unfortunately have very strict guidelines we have to follow that do not allow us to serve more than necessary. The purpose of the NSLP is to serve students a healthy and nutritious meal. We can not force students to eat everything we serve them, but we can also not allow them to have an endless supply of what they do like during each meal.
Our goal for the upcoming school year is to acquire extra funding to restart the salad bar. Fruits & veggies are relatively low in sodium, so our hope is that students can fill up on fruits & vegetables if they are still hungry after their meal. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email Paulie, our Food Service Director, at pmcclain@bbbsd.net.

Please join us in giving a heartfelt welcome to Michael Robbins and his family as they join our community. Michael will officially begin serving as Superintendent of Bristol Bay Borough School District on July 1.
We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to the leadership, energy, and commitment he will bring to our students, staff, and families. Be sure to say hello if you see the Robbins family around town—they’re eager to get to know you and become part of the community we all love.
