Meals To You summer meal applications are open and BBBSD is participating again!

Last summer, the program delivered more than 1 million meals to nearly 10,000 kids across 31 Alaska school districts.

Families who qualify receive meal boxes with 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches per child, shipped to their home or local post office throughout the summer.

Food Bank of Alaska administers Meals To You in partnership with school districts to help make sure kids in rural communities still have access to food when school is out.

To qualify, families need three things:
1️⃣ Student Enrollment
At least one child in the household must be enrolled in a participating school district during the application window (April 1–April 30, 2026).

2️⃣ Income Eligibility
Children must qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, attend a CEP school, or complete an income eligibility form during the application. *ALL BBBSD students qualify for free school meals!*

3️⃣ Rural Residency
Households must live in a USDA-designated rural area of Alaska during the summer.

If one child qualifies, every child in the household under 18 can receive meals, even if they aren’t enrolled in school.

For Elementary Students, please choose "Naknek Elementary School" and for MS/HS, select "Bristol Bay Middle/High School"

Apply by April 30:

Meals to
Dear School Community,

We’re excited to kick off our April Mental Health Challenge! Students in grades 7–12 will be competing against each other for mental wellness prizes they’ve selected, and we invite you to help us build awareness and encouragement throughout our school community.

Students can grab their calendar challenge forms from the schools front office and earn points in the following ways:

1 point for each daily checkmark (10 cups of water, 7–9 hours of sleep, 15 minutes of cardio)
5 bonus points for completing a monthly intention
2 points for each “something new I learned” (this can be anything, not just school-related)
10 points for each digital detox day (no screens)
Our goal is to make mental health visible, engaging, and an integral part of our daily routines as we move into the brighter months. This time of year is especially important for supporting mental wellness, and this challenge is an opportunity for students—and our broader community—to build positive habits and challenge patterns that may have developed during the winter months.

We encourage you to talk with students about the challenge, celebrate their efforts, and consider participating alongside them to model healthy habits. Small, consistent actions can make a meaningful difference.

All April Challenge forms will be due May 1st, and results will be announced at our assembly on May 7th.

Please see the attached April Mental Health Challenge calendar and the Social Work Corner newsletter (also shared in the schools parent newsletter) for more details.

Thank you for supporting the well-being of our students and school community.

Are you planning on your child enrolling in preschool next year? We are writing a competitive preschool grant and need accurate enrollment numbers.

The model we develop (number of days and times) is dependent on how many children are old enough. Children must be 3 years old before September 1st in order to attend pre-school 3. Please fill out this brief survey even if you want to enroll mid year. If you have already filled out the form, you do not need to do it again.

Recharge & Reset: The Spring Break Mental Health Challenge
Spring break is for more than just sleeping in—it’s the perfect time to prioritize you. We are excited to announce our Spring Break Mental Health Challenge for all students in grades 7–12!

How It Works
Before you head out for break, grab a challenge sheet from the front office or download it from the school portal. The sheet is packed with small, impactful activities designed to help you de-stress, unplug, and boost your mood.

What’s at Stake?
We aren’t just looking for participation; we’re looking for champions of self-care.

The Prizes: Students who return their sheets with the most items checked off will be entered to win exclusive prize bundles.

The Recognition: Top participants will receive the Spring Mental Health Award to honor their commitment to wellness.

The Goal: To enter the final stretch of the school year feeling refreshed, focused, and resilient.

Ready to take the challenge? Turn in your completed sheets to the social work office by the Friday after we return. Let’s make mental health a priority!
