Sunset @ The Mouth of the Naknek

March 6, 2021

Dear Angel Community,

SCHOOL STATUS

The Health Advisory Committee met on Friday and determined that BBBSD will begin operating in the low risk/green category of the Smart Start 2020 plan. A couple of interesting notes from the meeting:

  • Camai has performed over 11,000+ tests in the past year and continues to test 10-30 people per day at their testing center (3x/week).

  • Camai and BBAHC combined have administered at least one dose of a vaccination to an estimated 44% of the adult population in our Borough.

  • Camai is working to secure the appropriate vaccine for 16-17-year-old residents.

  • A Mass Vaccination event will be held at the new gym on March 13th. Camai will be posting details soon.

  • Weekly COVID testing of all athletes and adults participating in student activities began Thursday, March 4th.

Thank You, Camai, for all the work you have done to keep our school & community safe. While other states and communities are struggling to find a way to vaccinate their educators, you have ensured that all interested BBBSD staff have already received (2) doses of a vaccine. We really appreciate having the ability to continue serving students safely.

    CONSTRUCTION

Construction is moving quickly and most construction activities should shift to the elementary wing in the next 2-3 weeks. As soon as weather permits work will resume on the school exterior, playground, and ground surfaces. Options are currently being considered to allow students/staff to use the HS wing but no firm date has been established.

    ALTERNATE FACILITIES VISITATION

Please do not visit classes when they are in session. You may arrive outside of the alternate facilities for pick-up/drop-off but we continue limiting exposure.

    SMART START 2020

BBBSD will continue working under the Smart Start 2020 plan that was developed this fall until further notice. We will continue observing testing/quarantining requirements for students/staff who travel, the use of masks, social distancing and appropriate hygiene. The State Department of Health and Social Services continues promoting these behaviors as the best way to keep schools operational.

    SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

The BBBSD School Board will meet @ 7:30pm on Tuesday, March 9th for their regular monthly meeting. Agenda’s and ZOOM links are available on the district’s FB page and posted publicly.

    Have a great weekend!
