Student of the Month Assembly

We will have our September Student of the Month assembly on Monday Oct 8 at 9:05 in the auditorium.  That will be followed by our pizza lunch at the D&D.  Students will gather at 11:30 and head to the D&D once they are all assembled.  As always, parents are invited to join their child for lunch.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Time Change

Today's ribbon cutting ceremony has been moved to 1:45 due to flight delays.

Dessert Potluck-Social & Film Tonight

Tonight we'll have a dessert potluck and show some student film clips.  These include some footage of the trail construction as well as clips created by students depicting the importance of wilderness and trails.  We hope you'll join us at 7:00.

Sockeye Fitness Trail Ribbon Cutting

We hope you'll come by the school auditorium on Friday September 28 for the official Sockeye Fitness Trail ribbon cutting.  We'll start in the auditorium at 1:00 and later move out to the trail to cut the ribbon and mark the official opening.  There is still some finishing work to be done, but we hope people will begin to use the trail to safely bike to school, or walk/run/jog along the trail as a way to enjoy the outdoors and stay healthy.  Later that evening we'll have a dessert potluck-social and view a student produced film about the importance of trails and wilderness.

Parent Conferences & Early Release Next Week

Traditionally we've held parent conferences when the quarter is over and hand-delivered report cards at that time.  We feel it could really make a difference in student achievement if we have parent conferences at mid-quarter so parents and students can have those important conversations with teachers before the quarter is finished.  We will have conferences (and early releases) Wednesday and Thursday September 26 & 27.  Wednesday's conferences will be from 2:30 - 4:00.  Thursday's conferences will be in the evening from 6-8.  We hope you can come by and visit with your child's teacher.

Menu changes for the week of Sept 17

The new meal pattern requires legumes and certain colored vegetables at least once a week.  In order to meet these requirements there are a few changes this week:

On Tues 9/18 we will be having baked beans instead of corn.
There has been a delay in our produce order so on 9/19 we won't be having salad.  Instead we will have cole slaw made from Dillingham grown cabbages.
In order to meet the weekly dark green vegetable requirement we will be having broccoli instead of mixed vegetables on 9/21.

A Note From The Kitchen

Today the elementary students enjoyed a snack of farm fresh carrots from Alaska Bounty Farm in Dillingham.  We will be working with other Alaska growers to get more locally grown fresh produce for students.

Concert, Open House & Early Release Thursday Sept 13

Thursday September 13 is a big day at the school (and is also an early release day). "Alaska Brass," a group of six airmen that are part of the Air Force Band, will be at our school on Thursday for two shows. They will be performing at 12:45 for half an hour, and again at 5:00 for an hour long concert. Following their evening performance there will be a potluck BBQ at 6:00 followed by our fall open house. Come down to the school for an evening of music, food, and a chance to visit the classrooms.

Get Ready! Get Set! SWIM!

It is time to swim.Kindergartners swim every other Wednesday, beginning September 12. Make sure they bring their Swimsuits and towels.
Thank you.
Mrs. Hayden
