December, 2011 Update

Thanks for your interests in the Bristol Bay Borough School District.  We have no openings for teachers or administrators at this time and invite you to check back later in case we have positions for the 2012-2013 year.

We are a district dedicated to providing a top quality educational program for our borough residents. While we did not make our AYP target for graduation rate this year, we met all academic targets.  We are one of only a small number of Alaska districts who had made all of these targets in every previous yar of No Child Left Behind.  We have appreciated all the interests we have seen from many talented teachers and school leaders over the last six months.

Mr. Jim Dube, who joined us as a new principal last school year has had another good year.  Mr. Dube is someone who has made a big difference this year and helped us continue to grow and develop as a school and district.  Our community was very impressed with Jim's energy and experiences during his first year.  His skills in providing support to the classroom, his knowledge of technology, and his caring and professional attitude, were all things that stood out and we are excited about what future years might bring.  Congratulations to Mr. Dube!

Its been two years of big change with two retirements and other long-term staff moving on to pursue other dreams. We have also had some first year and early career teachers do a great job in the school, but they also knew that they could not stay for various reasons.  We have always appreciated their efforts and know that they will do well in other education experiences.

In 2007, 12 of 16 teachers had 5 or more years of experience in the district.  In the current school year, only 4 of 15 will have that same level of experience in our district.  Clearly, our long term goal is to find that right mix of teachers that will be able to stay in Bristol Bay for many years and help continue the tradition of a strong school program for the students of Naknek, South Naknek, and King Salmon.

The district does have openings for substitutes, and occasionally we have classified positions for local residents to work as classroom aides, bus drivers, and other jobs.
