We are saddened by the news that our kindergarten teacher, Mrs Katherine Groat passed away early this morning. Mrs. Groat was someone who was born and raised in the community of South Naknek, and has spent the last 40 years working in our schools. She was a remarkable teacher, a caring and compassionate person, and someone we will miss dearly. The School Board, district staff, and community will have Mrs. Groat and her family in our thoughts throughout this school year and beyond.

Congratulations young filmmakers
Our New Explorers group participated in a film making workshop last weekend and the culminating event was a screening of some of their rough cut films and a 17:00 final version of a film promoting the National Parks and Trails. Thanks to our partners from the Park Service and Alaska Film Production Company that have helped us tell the story of our life in Naknek and the fitness trail we are building. Copies of the finished dvd are available for loan from the school.

4th Grade Potlatch
Our final day of the 2009-2010 school year, we held a potlatch to raise our totem poles. The girls built one and the boys built the other. The students did a great job in designing and building them.
