We are saddened by the news that our kindergarten teacher, Mrs Katherine Groat passed away early this morning. Mrs. Groat was someone who was born and raised in the community of South Naknek, and has spent the last 40 years working in our schools. She was a remarkable teacher, a caring and compassionate person, and someone we will miss dearly. The School Board, district staff, and community will have Mrs. Groat and her family in our thoughts throughout this school year and beyond.
Employment
June 22, 2010 Update
Thanks for your interests in the Bristol Bay Borough School District. By this evening, we will have filled all teaching positions in the district for the new school year. We have appreciated all the interests we have seen from many talented teachers and school leaders over the last six months.
We are happy to announce our new principal for 2010-2011 and beyond will be Mr. Jim Dube. Mr. Dube is someone who has had 11 years of experience in Alaska with the Denali Borough School District. Our committee was very impressed with Jim's energy and experiences. His skills in the classroom, his knowledge of technology, and his caring and professional attitude, were all things that stood out and made him the best candidate for our position. Congratulations to Mr. Dube!
Its a big year for change with two retirements and other long-term staff moving to pursue other dreams. We will have new teachers in grades 1-4 next year and we will also have a new MS/HS English and Language Arts teacher. Each of these teachers brings skills and experience that make us believe they could be very successful here for years to come.
The district does have openings for substitutes, and occasionally we have classified positions for local residents to work as classroom aides, bus drivers, and other jobs.
